Shapes and Forms

2022 | Sculpture, Digital

Another rough sculpt+digital paint piece, which is a re-do of an illustration I made back in 2019.
The origianl piece was a reflection of derealization/depersonalization issues. In short, for me a lot of existing feels dream-like, fuzzy, or as if I'm watching things from the outside. Most days I'm pretty indifferet, or it doesn't impact my day-to-day doings, but other days it can be frustrating or very stressful.

Below are some close-ups to really show off the textural qualities of the piece. Unlike my previous stab at this workflow with Portrait, I opted to dig up my nicer camera to take a photo of the sculpt and wow, it really made a difference. Camera I used was a Canon Rebel T7i or something. I've had it for a while but hardly know how to work the damn thing lol.

And here is what the original photo of the sculpt looked like without any editing and paint-over [though compressed so I can save server space]. The grain was achived by pressing and rubbing fine sand on the surface of the sculpt.

How the set up looked like. That's just a sheet of felt for the backdrop, and the sculpt itself isn't very big as you can see here. The 'floating' elements were achived by using thin pencil leads and sticking them to the scuplt, and then to the "floating' forms, which I painted out in the final. The black marble was ther so I could use it as a reference for how the lighting looked on glossy surfaces, which I aimed to use when painting in the line but ended up not getting much utility out of it.

You can find the original 2019 piece here.
